How XRF Testing Works
The machine directs X-rays at the surface of the metal and reads the energy each element gives back. The result shows gold percentage and other metals such as silver, copper and zinc.
XRF vs Touchstone vs Acid Test
- Touchstone — depends on the tester’s eye and leaves a mark.
- Acid test — can damage the surface.
- XRF — fast, non-destructive, and shows you a reading on screen.
Good to Know
XRF reads the surface layer. For plated, hollow or heavily soldered items, our team will explain any limits of the reading before giving a price.
